This wouldn’t be the first time the Targaryens took center stage—HBO’s Game of Thrones followed Daenerys Targaryen’s fiery quest for the Iron Throne, while House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms delved deeper into the family’s tumultuous history. All of these, of course, are rooted in George R.R. Martin’s sprawling book universe, which has proven to be a goldmine for adaptations.
But this is the part most people miss: not every Thrones-related project makes it past the development phase. HBO shelved several spinoffs before greenlighting House of the Dragon and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. And with Paramount’s acquisition looming, the new owners could decide this film isn’t the right move for expanding the Thrones IP.
