A royal treasure's fate revealed! The British Museum has decided to keep a pendant with a captivating story, linked to the iconic Henry VIII. But here's the twist: it's not just any old piece of jewelry. This pendant, known as the Tudor Heart, is a rare survivor, offering a unique glimpse into the past.
The museum's decision was driven by the belief that artifacts from Henry VIII's marriage to Katherine of Aragon are few and far between. And the public agreed, with over 45,000 people contributing to the campaign, raising a significant portion of the museum's goal.
But here's where it gets controversial... The National Heritage Memorial Fund, with its mission to preserve the UK's most precious heritage, stepped in with a substantial donation of £1.75 million. Other generous donors include Art Fund, the Julia Rausing Trust, and The American Friends of the British Museum.
Cullinan, speaking on behalf of the museum, expressed gratitude: "A heartfelt thank you to all who supported our campaign. This beautiful piece of history, once hidden, now belongs to us all."
Simon Thurley, chairman of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, added: "The Tudor Heart is a remarkable window into Henry VIII's court. We're thrilled to support its public display."
The museum plans to officially add the pendant to its collection later this year, and even has future plans for a UK tour.
So, what do you think? Is this a worthy addition to the museum's collection? Or is it just another expensive trinket? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
